Houston is one of the very few U.S. cities with resident theatrical companies, such as the Alley Theater, symphony and opera companies, the Houston Ballet Company that rivals the revered Ballet Russe, and at times, at very special times, two or more of these exciting, gifted companies perform together in a phenomenal production. The 17-block Theater District in downtown Houston encompasses more than 12,000 seats and eight performing arts organizations. New York City alone is the only city with more seats available in one geographical area. Houston’s museum district offers a large range of galleries and museums, art and cultural institutions. Four million people visit the Museum District every year. For inspiration, nothing can compare to a visit to this area, for lucky tourists or Houstonians who haven’t had time yet to go there.
